Why the Gold Coast is harder on glass than almost anywhere
We clean windows from Coolangatta to Beenleigh, and the single biggest factor in how fast glass gets dirty here is distance from the ocean. Salt aerosol travels a surprising way inland — homes within about 2km of the beach get a fine salt film on every pane within weeks. You often can't see it head-on, but catch the glass in afternoon sun and it looks hazy.
The problem isn't just appearance. Salt is hygroscopic — it pulls moisture out of the air and holds it against the glass. Combined with UV, that slowly etches microscopic pits into the surface. Once glass is etched, no amount of cleaning brings it back; the pane has to be replaced. - Central suburbs and canal estates (e.g. Robina, Mermaid Waters, Broadbeach Waters): every 3–4 months — canal homes still get salt, plus hard-water spotting from sprinklers.
- Hinterland and northern suburbs (e.g. Mudgeeraba, Nerang, Ormeau): every 4–6 months is usually fine unless you're under trees or near a busy road.
